Tactical Task Force and SAPS members in Port Elizabeth have seized more than 1000 units of abalone valued at R260 000 outside a house in Sherwood.
Tactical Task Force Commander Tom Schwartz says they received information on Thursday that a car in Marine Drive contained abalone.
Schwartz says they followed the VW Jetta and swooped on the driver as he stopped outside a house in Sherwood.
One-thousand and 11 units of abalone, weighing about 115 kilogrammes, were found packed in blue plastic bags in the vehicle.
The car was confiscated and the 23 year old driver was arrested.
He is being held in custody and is expected to appear in court on Monday.
