Detectives in Gelvandale, Port Elizabeth, have confirmed that the body of a woman found burning in Van Duuren Street on Sunday is not that of the woman who was reported missing the same day.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the missing woman was found alive by her parents on Monday.
The identity of the murdered woman, believed to be around 21 years of age, is still not known.
The 27-year-old suspect arrested in connection with her murder is appearing in the Gelvandale magistrates’ court on Tuesday on a charge of murder.
Colonel Naidu says that pending the results of the post mortem report, further charges may be added at a later stage.
Police are appealing to the community to assist them in identifying the woman, or may know of a person who has been missing since Christmas Day and have since not returned home, to contact their nearest police station.
