PE police seek community assistance following Algoa Park supermarket burglary

The  Provincial Organized Crime Investigation Unit in Port Elizabeth is seeking information from the community that could lead to the arrest of suspects who were involved in a burglary at a supermarket in Algoa Park yesterday.

Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the store manager locked the premises after 9 o'clock on Friday evening and activated the alarm.

She says after opening the shop just before 6 am on Saturday, she once again deactivated the alarm.

The manager then noticed that the ATM inside the store was forced opened and she immediately called the police.

Janse van Rensburg says the Bomb Disposal Unit was summoned to inspect the ATM.

She says the ATM was forced open with an angle grinder after the unknown number of suspects gained entry through the roof.

An undisclosed amount of cash was taken.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the nearest police station.
