Detectives from Algoa Park in Port Elizabeth are urgently trying to trace the next of kin of an unknown man who was shot and injured in Missionvale on Monday night.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says they responded to reports of a shooting incident in Tromp Street at 7.30 pm and found the man, believed to be in his mid to late forties, lying on the ground.
She says he was shot in the face and due to his injuries he is unable to communicate.
Colonel Naidu says he is also not known within the area.
