PE police launch manhunt following two murders in Walmer

Port Elizabeth police are searching for unknown suspects following two murders in the Walmer precinct on Friday and Saturday.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says in the first incident, it is alleged that 40-year old Luwelile Dlepu and his girlfriend were asleep at their house in Area Q in Walmer Township on Friday evening when they heard a sound at his brother's nearby shack.

The brother was out of town and Dlepu decided to investigate.

His girlfriend later heard two shots and found him lying on the ground with gunshot wounds to the back and chest.

He died at the scene.

Colonel Naidu says in the second incident on Saturday afternoon, the body of a foreign national, 41-year old Hemiedi Muhamedi Naeya was found in Piggot Road.

She says according to a witness, a white car with a man inside was parked in Fordyce Road for a long time and later, two men approached from the direction of Baakens Valley and got into the car.

Naidu says it is alleged that shortly afterwards, the driver jumped out of the vehicle, holding his chest.

He sustained stab wounds and died at the scene.

The two suspects searched the car and when the witness shouted at them, they ran away.

Police suspect that the motive could be drug-related.

Anyone with information that can assist in the investigations, can contact the nearest police station.
