Port Elizabeth police dog, Bentley exhibited his competent skills when he expertly followed a scent which enabled his handler to immediately locate a firearm hidden in a yard in Bloemendal in the city's northern areas at the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members from the Anti-Gang Unit received information on Saturday afternoon of a firearm at the back of a house in Didtloft Street, and the PE K9 Unit, the Flying Squad and Public Order Policing were immediately roped in to assist.
She says the house was searched and within minutes after searching the back yard, Bentley located a .38 revolver with no serial number and 6 rounds of ammunition hidden inside a wall.
