PE police destroy more than 2 000 firearms

Port Elizabeth police destroyed 2 011 firearms in Deal Party on Saturday.

Police spokesperson, Maj. Ernest Sigobe says the public voluntary handed in 978 firearms, while 1 033 firearms were confiscated from criminals across the Eastern Cape province.

He says 23 of the 27 SAPS clusters in the province took part in the operation.

Sigobe says 98 per cent of the weapons were handguns, while the rest were rifles and shotguns.
