Transport strike hits GMSA

The transport workers strike is having an impact on General Motors South Africa.

Spokesperson, Denise van Huysteen says "we do have a contingency plan in place which is enabling us to continue to build vehicles but not at our normal production levels."

She says further disruptions are anticipated should the two-week long strike continue.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen South Africa says it has been able to keep production running.

Communications manager Matt Genrich says its not been an easy task and they are monitoring the situation on a daily basis.

Mercedes Benz South Africa says its also been able to weather the storm even as the second week of the strike draws to a close.

Production at Ford's engine plant in Struandale is still continuing.
