Members of the Anti-Gang Unit have arrested a 45-year old man and recovered a firearm in Port Elizabeth's northern areas.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says members were patrolling in Esterhiuizen Street in Arcadia on Friday, when they noticed a man that is well known to them sitting outside his container.
She says upon searching it, a pistol, of which the serial number was filed off, was found.
He was arrested and is being detained on charges of possession of an illegal firearm, ammunition and dagga.
Meanwhile, a 40-year old man was arrested on Saturday by Bethelsdorp police and charged with the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Colonel Naidu says police received information of a suspicious man standing near a shop in Greenfields, and when he saw the police vehicle, he started running.
He was apprehended in Sewende Laan, and a revolver and ammunition were found in his possession.
Both suspects will appear in court on Monday.
