Quick response by the Port Elizabeth K9-unit led to the arrest of a 30-year-old suspect and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle and stolen goods in Kwadwesi on Saturday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says it is alleged that a 36-year old man was driving a white Ford Ranger bakkie with his two passengers towards Uitenhage to drop off groceries at a shop when four unknown men with firearms forced him to stop as they neared the R75 offramp.
She says three suspects got out and instructed them to get into their vehicle.
One suspect drove off with the bakkie and the complainant and his two passengers were dropped off in Uitenhage.
Naidu says a short while later, the K9 unit spotted the bakkie in Kwadwesi where it was stopped and the suspect arrested.
Police recovered a 9mm pistol with ammunition, all the stolen goods as well as five cellphones.
More arrests are expected.
The suspect will appear in the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court on Monday.
