Port Elizabeth police have arrested five men and a woman following a drug bust.
Police spokesperson, Captain Stanley Jarvis, says the operation was carried out between 01:00 and 08:00 on Thursday morning.
He says police seized a large quantity of mandrax tablets and as well as cash.
Jarvis says the suspects are believed to be ringleaders in a drug syndicate.
"Six ring leaders have been arrested after a year long investigation. Charges range from dealing in illegal drugs, money laundering as well as racketeering. The suspects were nabbed after 11 identified residences were raided in Nelson Mandela Metro." says Jarvis
Jarvis says Thursday's bust reaffirms the police's commitment to the fight against drugs.
"This comes on the day that we focus on National Drug Awareness and emphasises the SAPS commitment against the drug trade. The organised crime unit were assisted by the TRT, The Cyber Unit, Crime Intelligence, SARS and the Asset Forfeiture Unit."
