Port Elizabeth police have arrested six suspects at the weekend for the possession of illegal firearms and ammunition.
Spokesperson, Colonel Pricilla Naidu says members were doing routine stop and search operations in Ikamvelihle on Saturday when they found an illegal firearm and 33 packets of tik in a vehicle.
The serial number of the firearm was filed off.
All five occupants, aged between 25 and 35, were arrested at the scene.
An additional charge of possession of drugs was added to one of the suspects.
Naidu says in the early hours of Sunday morning, members from the Flying Squad were patrolling the N2 near Coega when they stopped and searched a silver Nissan Tida.
A 38-year old man was arrested after two firearms, with their serial numbers filed off, were found under the seat.
All those arrested will appear in court on Tuesday.
