The Anti-Gang Tracking Team in Port Elizabeth has arrested a 48-year-old gang member in Kwanoxolo for the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, pointing of a firearm and possession of drugs.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu says team members were busy tracing wanted suspects when they noticed a known gangster in Mpuko Street on Monday afternoon.
She says as they drove towards him, they noticed a firearm on his waist.
The suspect started running and was chased by the police.
Naidu says as one of the members followed him into a yard, the suspect turned around and pointed the firearm at him.
The policeman fired shots at him, wounding him in the legs.
The suspect was apprehended and a 9mm firearm, which was reported stolen in Uitenhage in April 2018, was confiscated.
Seven mandrax tablets were also found in his possession.
The man is expected to appear in court soon.
