PE men convicted in rhino horn case

Two Port Elizabeth men were sentenced in the city's Regional Court for the illegal trade in rhino horn on Monday.

Police spokesperson, captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says they are 26-year-old Riaan Ross and 27-year-old Nicolas Kilian.

She says they were arrested during a police operation at Bushbuckridge near Maitland outside Port Elizabeth in 2011 by members of the Hawks.

Janse van Rensburg says during the operation police seized R50 000 in cash which has been forfeited to the State.

Ross was sentenced to five years imprisonment, suspended for five years, and fined R40 000, while Kilian was also sentenced to five years suspended for five years, plus three years' correctional supervision.
