A 23-year old man is expected to appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates on Friday morning on charges of possession and dealing in drugs to the value of approximately R560 000.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi says the man was arrested on Wednesday after members seized 14 000 mandrax tablets at premises in Bethelsdorp.
Mulaudzi says members were acting on crime intelligence information about a drug shipment which was to be delivered.
Upon arrival, police noticed a young man running through the backyard, carrying a box.
He dropped the box containing drugs and unleashed vicious dogs which charged at the police members.
Acting in self defence, the police members shot and killed three dogs, and the SPCA was informed of the incident.
