She says he and a friend, were accosted by four men, at 1 am in Balfour Heights, two of whom are known to them.
Naidu says a scuffle ensued when the assailants tried to take his cell phone and music box.
Simons was stabbed once in the neck and died at the scene.
His friend only had R10, which was also stolen.
The four men fled and are still at large.
Meanwhile, Naidu reports that 18-year-old Stefano Rossouw was found in Missionvale with an open wound to the head.
He was earlier seen in the company of three other men when an argument over money broke out.
Rossouw's body was later found by members of the community.
