PE man sentenced to prison for raping his pregnant girlfriend, twice

A man from Algoa Park in Port Elizabeth was sentenced to an effective 16-years in prison after raping his pregnant girlfriend on two separate occasions.

The 31-year-old Eugene Erasmus was sentenced and convicted earlier this month for the rapes that took place in 2018.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says Erasmus assaulted and raped his 27-year-old girlfriend at their flatlet in Dyke Road in Algoa Park.

The incident happened in November of 2018.

She says after the incident, the victim went to her parent's house in Uitenhage, but Erasmus went to fetch her on the same day.

Colonel Naidu says the victim, who was pregnant at the time, was again raped on the 4th of December and she then opened a case against him.

Erasmus was arrested a few days later and has been in custody ever since.

He was sentenced to 10-years in prison for the first rape and 12-years for the second.

The Judge ruled that six years would run concurrently.
