A young Port Elizabeth man had a narrow escape on Tuesday evening, after he was swept out to sea while swimming at Kings Beach.
Spokesperson for the National Sea Rescue Institue, Craig Lambinon says they were alerted of a drowing in progress, and a sea rescue craft was launched near the scene.
He says the vessel reached the 21-year old about 100 meters off-shore in the surf line, and he was pulled aboard and brought to safety.
Lambinon says he was unharmed and required no further assistance.
The NSRI has warned that people should be extra cautious at the country's beaches during the current full moon spring tide, which peaked on Monday.
It said the tide would cause stronger than normal rip currents.
Lambinon says people must only swim at beaches where lifeguards are on duty, and to always obey their instructions.
