An 18-year-old Port Elizabeth man has been burned to death by an angry mob who accused him of killing his own mother.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, said the tragic events unfolded on Thursday morning when the body of 56-year-old Nothemba Tsili, was found outside her house in Tabata Street in New Brighton.
"It is alleged that the community in the area immediately suspected her son, 18-year-old Lindokuhle to be the murderer and set about searching for him," Beetge said.
"SAPS was, unfortunately, unable to find him before the crowd did. At 09:40 a group of about 120 persons killed the son by burning him in the street, not far from where the body of his mother was found earlier."
Beetge said that Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, had warned that revenge attacks would not be tolerated.
"One cannot right a wrong with another wrong. Murder stays murder, and killing out of revenge will face the same consequences with the Law as murder," Rabie said.
He said both murders will get the full attention of the SAPS.
