The Western Cape High Court has dismissed an appeal by a Mossel Bay farmer who was found guilty of animal cruelty for shooting his farm workers' German Shepherd in 2014.
Twenty-nine-year-old Jimmy Barnard was sentenced to a fine of R7000 or seven months imprisonment, which was suspended for five years.
He was also ordered to pay just over R3 200 rand to the SPCA.
Barnard shot the 13-year-old German Sheppard-cross named Spotty, on his farm in October in 2014.
Spotty had belonged to a girlfriend of one of Barnard's employees and was tied up at the time.
The incident happened in front of her children and her neighbours' children.
Barnard told the Court that Spotty chased and killed his cattle and that he was given permission, by the owner, to shoot the dog.
The Magistrate said during Judgement that Barnard's attitude was arrogant and dismissed his appeal.
