A 48-year-old man from Port Elizabeth will be appearing in court today on a charge of culpable homicide and drunk driving.
Police warrant officer Dumile Gwavu says the man was arrested in the early hours of yesterday morning after he lost control of his vehicle.
It rolled down an embankment and landed in the Swartkops river.
The man's girlfriend, 42-year-old Lynette Hammond of Sydenham, was trapped in the vehicle and died on the scene.
