Police in Port Elizabeth are investigating the death of a man who was killed in an apparent hit in New Brighton on Sunday.
Spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge says they received reports of a shooting incident at about 7.30 pm opposite a tavern in Gunguluze Street.
He says when police arrived on the scene they found the body of a man lying in the middle of the road, with his cell phone still in his hand.
Beetge says he sustained multiple gunshot wounds in his chest, neck and head.
The victim was identified as the 30-year-old Sinethemba Kaya Mabani.
Police say Mabani was a known gangster and allegedly involved in several criminal activities.
Captain Beetge says they found 14 cartridges on the crime scene.
He says there were no witnesses and no arrest have been made.
A case of murder is under investigation.
