A Port Elizabeth man who had armed robbery charges against him dropped, has won half a million rand in damages against the Minister of Police for unlawful detention.
The Supreme Court of Appeal upheld the appeal of Vuyani Woji and ordered that the Minister must also pay the costs of the application.
Woji was one of four people arrested for an armed robbery at a branch of a bank in Njoli Square.
He was held in custody for over a year after being denied bail, but charges were later withdrawn against him after video evidence proved inconclusive against him.
