Members of the Port Elizabeth K9 unit and Marine Coastal unit have arrested a 20-year-old abalone-poaching suspect.
Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the suspect was arrested on Marine Drive in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Colonel Naidu says the information was received about illegal poaching and a stakeout was conducted.
At around 2 am, a suspect emerged from bushes on Marine Drive and was apprehended by police.
On searching his bag, members found 243 units of abalone weighing 50 kilogrammes and with a street value of 50-thousand rand.
The suspect is in custody and will appear in court soon.
