Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of house robbery near Greenbushes on Saturday afternoon, in which a 53-year old man was attacked with an axe.
Col Priscilla Naidu says it is alleged that the complainant woke up when he realised that he was being attacked by an intruder with an axe.
She says it is further alleged that his ex-girlfriend and her friend came to the victim's house in Rietkuil Road, and took his cash, cigarettes and food and left.
Naidu says he ran to the neighbour's house for help and was taken to hospital with cuts to the chest, hip and hand.
