A 31-year-old man was arrested in Kwazakele, Port Elizabeth during the early hours of Saturday morning for the possession of suspected stolen money, possession of a firearm and ammunition as well as failure to confine himself to his residence during the curfew.
Colonel Pricilla Naidu says police were patrolling shortly after midnight in Qeqe Street when they noticed the man walking with a backpack, and as they stopped next to him, he tried to run away.
She says he was apprehended and while searching him, he became aggressive and a firearm fell from his pants.
Two mandrax tablets and about R18 000 in cash were found in his backpack.
Ownership of the firearm is yet to be determined.
The suspect will appear in the New Brighton Magistrate's Court on Monday.
