PE man acquitted on drug charges

A man accused of drug dealing, 56-year old Livingstone Makasholo of Bluewater Bay has been acquitted in the Port Elizabeth High court.

The charges against him included dealing in drugs, corruption, money laundering and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Makasholo was arrested during 2010 when police confiscated mandrax, cash and cars valued at over R12-million at his home.

His lawyer Alwyn Griebenouw told AlgoaFM News his client was acquitted on Wednesday on the bulk of the charges including the main charge of dealing in drugs.

"Then there were further counts relating to alleged bribery of police officers involving amounts of R1.8 million which was supposedly offered to them. The Judge found that the evidence obtained at the house of Mr Makasholo was tainted, because it was obtained unconstitutionally and therefore it is inadmissible." he said.
