A 16-year-old pupil at Concordia High School in Knysna was seriously wounded on Wednesday morning after a fellow pupil attacked and stabbed him on the school premises.
The incident happened just minutes after the school bell rang at about 8.15am.
The boys were allegedly involved in an altercation when a 15-year-old pulled out a sharp object and stabbed the teenager in the upper body.
Police spokesperson, Constable Chris Spies, confirmed that a young suspect had been taken in for questioning.
The victim was admitted to the Knysna Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery.
Spies said the boy remains in a serious condition.
He added that the boys' classmates, who witnessed the stabbing, were being interviewed by police and that the children will receive trauma counselling.
