Two horses had to be put down at the Fairview race track in Port Elizabeth earlier this month, after sustaining injuries during races.
The NSPCA says in a statement the incident happened on the 7th of November.
It says the first horse, Sapphire Sea was put down at the track after breaking its left fetlock in the second race, while the other one, Venita was put down after ripping a right fore fetlock tendon in a later race.
The Manager at the Fairview track, Luciano Passerini confirmed that Sea Sapphire went down at approximately 100 metres from the finish line in front of the main grandstand.
The second incident, which ultimately led to the death of Venita, occurred at around 400 metres from the start.
NSPCA Executive Director, Marcelle Meredith says these tragedies illustrate why they oppose animal racing.
