A 38-year-old Port Elizabeth man sustained serious injuries when he was attacked in his home in Brymore by intruders who broke into his house in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said his 37-year-old wife woke up after 2 am to go to the bathroom when she was confronted by a suspect who had gained entry by removing the burglar bars on the window.
“The woman screamed and her husband, who had woken up fought with the suspect. Three other suspects then broke the sliding door glass and entered,” Naidu said.
She said the husband was attacked with a panga and sustained serious wounds to his legs and body.
The suspects fled with a laptop and two cell phones.
Naidu said the man’s wife was not injured while he was taken to a hospital for treatment.
