A 39-year old Egyptian man was granted bail of R1000 after appearing in court for a hit and run accident in Heidelberg in the Western Cape in which an 11-month old toddler was killed.
Ahmed Rayed appeared in the town’s Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday in connection with the death of little Jamie-Lee Fatjela.
The boy was playing in front of his house in Heidelberg when it’s alleged that Rayed “drove over” him and then fled the scene.
He was arrested in Mossel Bay a day later following a police hunt.
Rayed was ordered to hand in his passport and is due back in court again on 16 March to face a charge of culpable homicide.
