PE hijacker breaks a leg whilst running from police

Four hijacking suspects have been arrested by members of the Port Elizabeth K9 unit after a Quantam minibus was hijacked in Ikamvelihle in Motherwell early on Tuesday morning.

Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the vehicle's tracker was activated and police tracked it to the back of a shop in Tromp Street, Missionvale.

Members found four men removing the number plates and stripping the vehicle.

A 27-year-old was arrested and found to be in possession of a toy gun.

The other suspects scattered and started running but with the help of a German Shepherd called Jack, K9 unit members arrested two men aged 23 and 33 hiding in a bakkie in the garage of a nearby spaza shop.

Colonel Naidu says Jack and his handler then proceeded to a shack in the same street where the fourth suspect, aged 27, was found hiding. He had broken his leg while jumping off a roof.

All four suspects are detained on a charge of vehicle hijacking.
