PE gangster in court for double murder committed in 2018

A 24-year-old gang member is due to appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court today on a double murder charge following an incident which took place in Bethelsdorp in November of last year.

Colonel Priscilla Naidu says 21-year-old Megan Mitchell and 36-year-old Clive September were walking in Almand Street in Jacksonville shortly after midnight on the 3rd of November.

Two men suddenly appeared and starting shooting at them and they were both fatally wounded.

Mitchell sustained a gunshot wound to the head and chest while September sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

Colonel Naidu says that 29 year-old Riyaad Groves was arrested at his house in Jacksonville a month later.

He has since appeared in court and remains in custody until his next appearance next month.

The second suspect, aged 24, has evaded arrest since the murders but was finally taken into custody yesterday.

Colonel Naidu says PE Flying Squad members acted on information and arrested the man at a house in Brittlewood Street in Jacksonville.

He was detained and charged with the murders of Mitchell and September.
