PE gang violence: seven killed in six days

Gang-related shootings continued on Sunday in Port Elizabeth's Northern Areas following a week in which 7 young men were murdered in the past 6 days.

Captain Alwin Labans says police are investigating  three unrelated attempted murder cases in the past 24 hours which are all believed to be gang related.

Labans says a 30-year-old man was shot on the arm by three unknown suspects in Kleinskool main road on Monday morning.

On Sunday, two men were shot at in their home in Deverill road in Helenvale by three suspects who entered their yard and opened fire.

Labans says the two men were not wounded as they ran into the house while shots were being fired at them.

In a separate incident, a  49-year-old man was hit in the hand by a stray bullet.

Labans says two suspects where chasing three men in Solidarity street in Kleinskool when a stray bullet entered the man's living room and struck him on the thumb.

Meanwhile two men, aged 18 and 19, will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of attempted murder.

This relates to the wounding of an eight-year-old boy, Cilviano Draai, who was caught in the crossfire between rival gangs in Helenvale earlier this month.

The boy was wounded in the chest in the shoot-out on the corner of Pienaar and Ambraal Streets.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says the two suspects were arrested on Friday.

It's expected that the case against them will be remanded for a formal bail application.
