Eastern Cape police arrested four people in Port Elizabeth for the murder of two women in Peddie earlier this month.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said three men and a woman were arrested in New Brighton on Friday.
They will be charged with the murder of 74-year-old Boniswa Toba and her 37-year-old daughter-in-law, Cingiswa Toba, who were stabbed to death in Celetyuma Village in Peddie on Sunday, 4 April.
“The deceased cell phones, as well as other household items, were also taken,” Naidu said.
She said members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit received information about a “suspicious Audi A3” which was spotted in the village at the time of the murders.
The investigation led detectives to New Brighton in Port Elizabeth where the four were arrested at different locations.
Naidu said they were detained on two charges of murder and a charge of robbery.
The 57-year-old Nomvula Isabella Zodwa, 32-year-old Lwando Lengisi, 27-year-oldAyabulela Mahokoto and 32-year-old Thamsanqa Mlamli Hlamandana made a brief appearance in the Peddie Magistrates' Court on Tuesday where the matter was postponed until the 4th of May, for a formal bail application.
