The opening ceremony of Port Elizabeth’s brand new bingo hall will not be celebrated with a fireworks display.
The new Galaxy Grill and Galaxy Bingo in the Moffett on Main shopping centre planned to celebrate the opening of their new store with a fireworks display next week, but many people have complained, including the Animal Welfare Society, the Echo Foundation Retirement Village and several Algoa FM listeners.
Centre Manager, Marinda Herbst told Algoa FM News that even though they got permission for the fireworks display and adhered to all the by-laws, they also need to take the public's feelings into consideration...
"Seven days before a notice is placed in the paper so that objections can be received and considered and that is what started the whole media storm. We fully understand and we are invested in the community around us. We made a decision as centre management that long after the fireworks we still have a relationship with our community, therefore we have decided to can the fireworks and alternative entertainment arrangements have been made" she said
