A family from Algoa Park in Port Elizabeth is in mourning.
This after a grade six learner at the Tjaart van der Walt Primary School died in hospital on Wednesday morning after being hit by a car while on his way to school on Tuesday.
Algoa FM News has learnt that 11-year-old Marthinus Lodewyk was hit by a car in Algoa Park while apparently on a pedestrian crossing.
An eyewitness told Algoa FM news that a Polo was involved in the accident.
He was admitted to hospital with serious head injuries but later died.
Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Several good Samaritans, who are members of a Facebook group known as Moeksies Van PE - or Mothers of PE, have come together to arrange for payment of the funeral costs.
Kouga funerals has since offered to cover the cost of the cremation.
