PE double murder accused back in court

File

Five people charged with the murders of two elderly women at a Port Elizabeth retirement village made another court appearance on Thursday.

They were arrested for the murders of 91-year-old Agnes Burns and 87-year-old Rosemary Langton, at the St John Stella Londt Centre last October.

Both women were found gagged and with their hands and feet bound in their ransacked rooms.

Police said Kruger rands, elite watches, gold rings and a wedding ring with a precious stone, as well as other jewellery and a cellphone, were taken during the robbery.

The five accused are Nombebisi Slangveld (34), Mkhuseli Damaneti (30), Nyasha Manyange (33), Luxolo Kruisjan(31) and Akhona Mnxeba (28), face charges of murder, house-robbery, kidnapping and conspiracy to commit robbery.

Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said their case was postponed to the 12 February and they remain in custody.

Two other men pleaded guilty and were given suspended sentences for being in possession of the deceased's cell phones.
