A Port Elizabeth doctor was seriously injured when she was stabbed by an assailant who robbed her and her fiance' while on the Sacramento Trail in Schoemakerskop.
Police spokesperson, captain Stanley Jarvis, says a lone assailant approached the couple as they sat on a bench at around noon on Friday.
He says the attacker fired a shot and demanded their cellphones and car keys which they did.
Jarvis while this was happening the woman's fiance' tried to hit the fire-arm away from her direction.
He says the assailant then pulled out a knife and stabbed the woman in the arm hitting one of her main arteries. She is currently being operated on at the St Georges Hospital.
