A man and a woman have been arrested in Port Elizabeth for defeating the ends of justice.
Police spokesperson, Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg says they were arrested on Thursday, after the 38-year old man went to a house in Central on Tuesday evening, and spent the night there.
She says the following day, he contacted his employer and said that he was being kept against his will in the house in Clyde Street and a ransom of R3000 must be paid before he could be released.
Janse van Rensburg says the amount was paid on the same day.
She says according to the employer, the victim was not released and the so-called ‘perpetrators’ demanded another R3000.
The police were called in, and upon investigation, it was established that the man and a 24-year old woman fabricated the story.
They will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court on Monday.
