Port Elizabeth police are appealing to the public for help in tracking down the suspects who stabbed a man to death during a suspected robbery.
The incident took place in Bennett Street in Sidwell on Sunday morning.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said 52-year-old Steven Branders was walking from a shop in Haupt Street when he was approached by two unknown males.
“CCTV footage shows that Branders tried to ward off his attackers who overpowered him and pushed him to the ground. He was stabbed several times,” she said.
Naidu said one of the suspect’s grabbed something from his hand, possibly his cell phone and they got into an old white Mazda Midge or Ford with two people inside, who picked up the two suspects.
She said the footage shows that the vehicle is very old and may have a dent in the front and the back window is totally broken and fitted with a makeshift plastic covering.
Naidu said there were passing vehicles who may have witnessed the attack.
Anyone who can assist should contact Detective Warrant Officer, Errol Kleinhans, at Algoa Park Police on 083 243 4567 or 041 4011061 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
