Port Elizabeth police are appealing to the public for information that would lead to the arrest of a murder suspect.
Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said Darren Lee Whitebooi, is wanted for the murder of a 24-year-old man in Helenvale last month.
“It is alleged that on 13 December 2020 at about 08:00, Chester Williams was kidnapped by three gang members in Fitchard Street in Helenvale,” Naidu said.
She said friends of his approached the suspects and begged them to release him because he was not involved in any gang activity.
Naidu said Williams was able to free himself and fled while his friends were negotiating with the suspects.
“Darren Lee Whitebooi fired several shots at the fleeing Williams. He was shot multiple times and died on the scene,” she said.
