Eastern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Liziwe Ntshinga has condemned the murder of two men who were accused of stock theft.
Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Khaya Tonjeni, said the incident happened at Baziya near Mthatha on Saturday.
He said according to information the men were in a van towing a trailer loaded with cattle which he said had been bought at Mputi Village near Ngcobo.
Tonjeni said they experienced a problem with the vehicle which led to the trailer coming loose and the animals escaping into the veld.
He said as they two men were herding the cattle back to the vehicle and onto the trailer, they were confronted by community members who accused them of stock theft.
“The two men were placed in their own van and burned to death. When police arrived, nobody was on the scene of the incident,” Tonjeni said.
Two cases of murder and malicious damage to property have been opened and currently under investigation.
No arrests have been made as yet.
