Police in Port Elizabeth have rallied to the aid of a colleague whose house was allegedly set alight by gangsters.
The incident happened in Gelvandale late in March while the policeman was on duty in the Motherwell cluster.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, said even though the policeman’s wife and son and a relative were at home, no one was injured during the incident.
She said police are investigating a case of arson and attack on police member.
Janse Van Rensburg said the house of Warrant Officer Willem Smith was completely gutted by the fire.
The motive for the incident is not yet known.
On Thursday, members of the SAPS Provincial Women's Network and Men for Change presented Smith and his family with household items and other supplies.
