Four people have died in two separate accidents reported in the Eastern Cape ahead of the Easter long weekend.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said that three people died following a collision between two cars outside Mthatha on Thursday.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said that the vehicle also caught alight.
Meanwhile, he said that a teenage girl was declared dead at an accident scene between two cars between Peddie and Makhanda (Grahamstown) on Thursday night.
President Cyril Ramaphosa, in an Easter message, called for Easter to be observed in a spirit of tolerance, consideration, and safety”.
“There is no reason that our Easter holidays should be remembered for the number of lives lost or injuries incurred on our roads; this should be a period of rest and enjoyment where everyone who leaves home, returns safely," he said.
