Police members in Port Elizabeth have 'disarmed' a group of suspects who were using replica firearms to allegedly commit crimes throughout the city.
Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu says toy guns can look incredibly real and are often used in the commission of serious crimes such as robberies.
She says members of the PE Flying squad received information about suspects who were in a shack in Missionvale in possession of drugs and firearms.
As police members approached the shack in Trom Road, the suspects saw them and fled into the nearby bushes.
Naidu says the shack was searched and police confiscated 3 replica firearms with a magazine, as well as a home-made Zip gun with a firing pin.
Police also found some live ammunition and a few Mandrax tablets.
No arrests have been made.
