Diesel tank full of dagga pulled over near Makhanda

Five men are expected to appear in the Grahamstown (Makhanda) Magistrates court this week, following a drug bust on the N2

Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says the highway patrol noticed an Isuzu bakkie with a diesel tank on a trailor, flashing it's emergency lights, whilst travelling at high speed.

The driver was stopped and questioned about the contents of the tank and was told that it contained diesel.

Govender says it is not the first time that tanks were used to hide drugs as someone had a similar modus operandi on the same stretch of road a few months ago.

A K9 was brought in to check the vehicle and he immediately reacted positively.

Govender says the inside of the tank was stacked with 51 refuse bags full of dagga.

The drugs, weighing 285kg have a street value of R582 017.

Five men, between the ages of 25 and 44 were arrested on the spot.
