Two Port Elizabeth policemen were arrested this week for allegedly trying to solicit a R150 from a motorist they stopped for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Provincial police spokesperson, Colonel Sibogile Soci, says Sergeant Mzwandile Mventshana (42) and Constable Khayalethu Hlamvana (36), were arrested on Wednesday by members of the Organised Crime Unit.
She says they appeared in the PE Specialized Commercial Crimes Court on the same day on two counts of corruption .
Soci says their case was remanded to the 29th of April to obtain legal representation.
She says they were released on warning.
The Mount Road Station Commander, Colonel Tony Nomdoe welcomed the arrest.
"The arrest shows our commitment to fighting crime, even when our own members are involved. This should send a strong message to other would-be offenders that we will not handle police corruption with soft-gloves. We expect police officers to abide and respect our Code of Conduct and those transgressing it, do not belong in a blue uniform," he said.
