Two PE men bust for perlemoen

Two Port Elizabeth men have been arrested for being in possession of perlemoen worth an estimated R 30 000.

Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says men, aged 18 and 42, were bust in a take-down operation by members of the SA Police Service and Abalone Task Team on Friday.

She said the men were arrested at a house in Forest Hill which had been under surveillance for some time.

Janse Van Rensburg said police confiscated 691 units of perlemoen was well as two vehicles.

She said a third person was arrested on a charge of "defeating the ends of justice for allegedly trying to remove one of the vehicles."

Meanwhile, Janse Van Rensburg, says two gunmen hijacked a cigarette truck after the driver had just made a delivery to a supermarket chain store in Summerstrand.

She says the driver was put in the back of his vehicle which was driven to a nearby street where the boxes were transferred to another vehicle.

Janse Van Rensburg says driver of the cigarette company vehicle was not injured.

No arrests have been made.
