Port Elizabeth police have arrested a 21-year-old suspect linked to the double murder of an elderly couple in Schoenmakerskop, as well as that of a man in Forrest Hill.
Schoenies resident, 78-year old Ken Alexander was bludgeoned to death on the 25th of September, and his partner 76-year old Elaine Allwright died from her injuries in hospital ten days later.
Two days earlier, 49-year old Tyrone Plaatjies, was killed inside a caravan in the Forrest Hill cemetery caretaker’s quarters.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said on Friday that the young man was arrested on Wednesday at the Patterson magistrate’s court where he appeared in connection with a separate case of house-breaking.
“The arrest came after police were following up on several leads,” Naidu said.
“The suspect is also charged for the murder of the 49-year-old man who was bludgeoned in a house robbery on 23/09 at the Forrest Hills cemetery caretaker’s quarters.”
Naidu said the suspect will appear in the Port Elizabeth magistrates’ court on Monday, 30 October 2017 on three charges of murder and aggravated robbery on two cases.
She said further arrests are imminent.
“Police will be investigating whether the suspect may be linked to other cases of robbery in the Summerstrand and Humewood areas,” Naidu said.
